[Iranian Parliament Speaker and Foreign Minister to Travel to Geneva to Sign Agreement]
According to a report by Golden Finance on June 15, citing The New York Times, two Iranian officials stated that Iran's chief negotiator, Parliament Speaker Qalibaf, and Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi will travel to Geneva to sign an agreement. U.S. Vice President Vance will represent the U.S. in signing the agreement, marking the highest-level meeting between Iran and Washington in 47 years. The two countries severed diplomatic relations after the 1979 Iranian Revolution, during which the U.S. Embassy in Iran was seized, and dozens of American diplomats and civilians were held hostage. According to Araghchi, the agreement will also explicitly state that Iran and the U.S. respect each other's sovereignty and will not interfere in each other's internal affairs. (Jin10)
