[Trump Seeks to 'Erase' Two Impeachment Records, Experts Say the Move Is Merely Symbolic]
According to a report by Wall Street Journal on June 12, as cited by Golden Finance, sources revealed that Trump and his allies have discussed urging lawmakers to pass a resolution aimed at declaring the two impeachments during his first presidential term invalid. The resolution would grant Trump a symbolic victory, which is part of his broader effort to enhance his presidential political legacy. However, experts note that this move holds little legal significance, as the Constitution does not provide a procedure for overturning impeachments.
In a phone interview this week, Trump stated: 'This should be done because I did nothing wrong.' Any attempt to erase the 2019 and 2021 impeachments would reignite debates over Trump's past conduct in office, forcing Republican lawmakers to revisit accusations such as abuse of power, obstruction of Congress, and incitement of insurrection. Sources indicated that this measure is unlikely to be considered until after the midterm elections in November. Several Republican members of the House of Representatives have expressed that, even then, it would be difficult to secure the votes needed for passage.
