[China Plans to Invest $295 Billion to Build Nationwide AI Infrastructure]
According to a report by Jinse Finance on June 9, citing Bloomberg, China plans to invest approximately 2 trillion yuan ($295 billion) over the next five years to build data centers nationwide in an effort to revitalize its domestic artificial intelligence industry. Sources familiar with the matter revealed that major government departments, including the National Development and Reform Commission, are drafting a blueprint aimed at establishing an interconnected network of computing centers across the country.
One of the sources stated that state-owned enterprises such as China Mobile and China Telecom will operate most of the data centers and ensure their interconnectivity. The sources also noted that the plan aims for at least 80% of AI chips and related technologies to rely on domestic suppliers such as Huawei Technologies Co., thereby effectively squeezing the market share of companies like Nvidia Corp. and Advanced Micro Devices Inc.
