First lesson of living abroad: make sure you get all your insurance sorted.
What left a deep impression on me was when Chipmunk went to see a doctor in Singapore for the first time. His leg hurt, so they did an X-ray, consulted a specialist, and the final conclusion was... nothing was wrong. The bill? Around 7,000 SGD.
The second time was during a badminton game—got hit in the eye. The community clinic couldn’t handle it, so they wrote a referral to a specialist hospital. A simple check-up and some meds later, it was 2,600 SGD.
Then when Chipmunk got hand, foot, and mouth disease, it surprisingly didn’t cost much—less than 2,000 SGD, I think? Can’t remember exactly.
Insurance costs about 3,300 SGD a year. Dental is separate—wisdom tooth extraction coverage is 405 SGD a year, and I think it includes a few free cleanings. My teeth aren’t great, so I got this plan, but ended up not using it for two years
