[Hungary's New Technology Minister Announces Removal of Unreasonable Restrictions on Crypto Market]
According to Cryptopolitan, Hungary's new Technology Minister, Zoltán Tanács, announced on June 6 that unreasonable restrictions on the crypto asset market will be removed, reversing policies from the previous government, including criminal penalties for unauthorized crypto services. Rules set to take effect in July 2025 had led platforms like Revolut to exit the Hungarian market, while local businesses faced high compliance costs. Tanács, who took office in May 2026 after the formation of the new government, believes these rules were politically motivated. The new government also plans to amend cybersecurity audit regulations under the NIS2 directive, with approximately 4,000 Hungarian companies facing a compliance deadline of June 30. Hungary is looking to draw inspiration from Estonia's digital governance model and position itself in support of the EU's MiCA framework.
