[Ramp Report: To Save Costs, Many U.S. Companies Directly Purchase China's DeepSeek Official API]
According to monitoring by Beating, a report released in June 2026 by U.S. expense management platform Ramp shows that Chinese AI company DeepSeek has topped the list of popular software. Despite earlier U.S. government efforts to guard against Chinese large models, real commercial transaction data reveals a contrasting reality. Ramp analyzed credit card spending records from over 50,000 companies on its platform and found that many U.S. companies have not deployed open-source models locally but instead are directly paying for DeepSeek's official hosted API services. This means that a significant amount of U.S. corporate data is being directly sent to and stored on servers located in China.
The actual flow of funds starkly contrasts with the cautious attitude in the U.S. over a year ago when DeepSeek R1 was first released. At that time, concerns over data leaks and security led major U.S. corporations and government agencies to generally restrict the use of Chinese models. However, faced with the high costs of domestic large models like OpenAI and Anthropic, many small and medium-sized enterprises have ultimately chosen to prioritize cost savings by directly purchasing the official services hosted in China.
In addition to directly using DeepSeek, U.S. companies are also becoming more cost-conscious in their AI spending, gradually shifting from OpenAI and Anthropic to the open-source ecosystem. Platforms like Fireworks AI, fal AI, and DeepInfra, which provide inference APIs for open-source models, have also made the rankings. Many companies are adopting intelligent load-balancing strategies, using expensive flagship models from OpenAI or Anthropic only for the most complex tasks, while delegating most routine tasks to more affordable open-source models.
There were earlier market concerns that AI agents might replace traditional software design tools, but actual data shows that design software remains resilient. In this month's rankings, design tool Figma appeared on the fastest-growing list, and collaborative design tool Paper also made it onto the popularity list, indicating that traditional design software remains robust in the enterprise sector.
