The US government has officially appealed the decision to refund tariffs
Golden Finance reported on June 3rd that the US government officially appealed against the ruling of the US International Trade Court ordering the US Customs and Border Protection to refund tariffs on June 2nd. The appeal result is related to the approximately $166 billion in tariff revenue imposed by the Trump administration on American importers, and the tariff refund process that has already been initiated may be affected. According to the ruling of the Supreme Court, a judge of the United States International Trade Court ruled on March 4th that Customs and Border Protection cannot conduct tariff clearance under the provisions of the United States International Emergency Economic Powers Act. This means that the tariffs previously charged to importers under this law need to be refunded. According to the Customs and Border Protection, as of March 4th, over 330000 importers have prepaid or paid a total of approximately $166 billion in related customs duties and taxes. According to a recent legal document submitted by the bureau, as of May 22, the bureau has accepted a total of approximately $85 billion in tariff refund applications and has requested the Ministry of Finance to refund approximately $20.6 billion in taxes.
