Sui Foundation revealed on Sunday that three outages on the Sui mainnet last Thursday and Friday were caused by two different bugs introduced in the v1.72 upgrade. The first two outages stemmed from a gas fee issue exposed by the 'address balances' feature. The team deployed a temporary fix on Thursday, which had a 'known low-probability issue that could cause outages,' but they accepted the risk to quickly restore service, leading to another outage on Friday. The third outage occurred when validators restarted to install the fix, triggering a potential bug related to the network's randomness settings. Sui stated that the bugs have been fixed, user funds were never at risk, settled transactions were not rolled back, and a mechanism to force-close stalled epochs has been implemented. (The Block)
