10 Tesla owners have collectively sued Tesla for false advertising of FSD, with the case already being heard in Beijing Daxing Court. The total compensation claimed exceeds 3.95 million yuan.
The reason for the lawsuit: Between 2019 and 2021, each plaintiff spent 56,000 RMB to purchase Tesla's FSD package. At the time, sales staff and even Elon Musk himself publicly claimed that full self-driving functionality would be available soon and that the price would increase later, enticing owners to pay upfront to unlock the feature.
However, the actual rollout fell far short of expectations. This year, when Tesla pushed its driver-assistance software in China, it was only compatible with vehicles equipped with the new HW4.0 hardware. A large number of vehicles produced between 2019 and 2023 with HW3.0 hardware were completely excluded and unable to access the advertised FSD functionality.
