[U.S. SEC Proposes to Repeal Biden-Era Climate Risk Disclosure Rule]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, on May 29, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is seeking to formally repeal a rule that the agency currently characterizes as a 'serious overreach' of its authority. The rule originally required publicly listed companies to disclose their greenhouse gas emissions and the risks climate change poses to their operations. In a proposal released on Friday aimed at formally repealing this Biden-era regulation, the SEC stated that the rule, which was established in 2024 but never officially implemented, is 'untenable from a policy perspective.' SEC Chairman Atkins remarked, 'We need to stick to our core responsibilities. Let the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) fulfill their duties, and we will focus on our own work.'
