[EU Plans to Impose Hundreds of Millions of Euros in Antitrust Fines on Google]
According to a report by Germany's *Handelsblatt* cited by Reuters, the European Union is planning to impose fines amounting to hundreds of millions of euros on Google's parent company, Alphabet, in response to alleged violations of the *Digital Markets Act* (DMA). Sources indicate that the decision is nearing completion and is expected to be announced before the summer recess, potentially becoming the largest fine issued under the DMA.
The investigation, which officially began in March 2025, focuses on whether Google prioritized its own services in search results, thereby harming fair market competition. The European Commission stated that its primary goal is to ensure corporate compliance rather than simply imposing penalties. However, if Google's proposed remedies fail to meet regulatory requirements, enforcement actions will continue.
Google responded by stating that adjustments made to its search products in compliance with the DMA have significantly impacted user experience and expressed hope to reach a resolution with regulators.
