According to Cryptopolitan, Kenya's 2026 fiscal bill proposes a 10% consumption tax on virtual asset service providers, much higher than the 5% tax rate for the gambling industry. The bill requires cryptocurrency companies to pay a one-time license fee of 150 million Kenyan shillings and an annual renewal fee of 2 million Kenyan shillings before operating in Kenya, and submit annual reports on user and transaction details to the Kenya Revenue Authority. Protests led by GenZ have resumed in Nairobi and other places, opposing multiple tax increase policies including cryptocurrency.
