Oura is reportedly valued at $11 billion and planning to IPO. I’ve been wearing it for two months, and honestly, the experience feels weaker compared to Apple Watch + Bever and Whoop. Yep, I’m currently wearing Oura + Apple Watch/Never + Whoop every day, just trying to figure out which health monitoring device works best for me and my family. In terms of data, it’s said that Oura’s finger-based tracking might be more accurate than wrist-based devices, but the difference isn’t huge. Personally, I think the other two are better mainly because they both have AI cores, allowing you to ask questions based on your data anytime, whereas Oura doesn’t. How do I describe this feeling? It’s like driving a compact car and then being asked to drive a tractor. Both get the job done, but once you’ve experienced the former, there’s no going back. Now, I feel like apps without integrated AI are a step behind—almost like they belong to a different era. I’ve gotten used to interacting with apps via natural language and giving commands that way. I’m losing patience for the old-school manual way of doing things that I’ve been used to for over a decade. One is a rigid tool, and the other feels like it has a little spirit inside—a soulful assistant. The choice is pretty obvious, right? I’m guessing Oura will eventually upgrade too. After all, this is the trend, and they already have a ton of sleep data. There’s no reason for them not to move in this direction. BTW, there’s another issue with Oura that’s been questioned. They’ve admitted to receiving government data requests but refused to disclose the number or details. The ring stores sensitive information like heart rate, sleep, and location data, and it’s not end-to-end encrypted—employees can access it. Previously, Oura’s collaborations with the Department of Defense and Palantir sparked privacy concerns. Now, with a valuation exceeding $11 billion, they still haven’t released a transparency report. For those using it, I’d recommend turning off its GPS tracking. Honestly, it’s not that useful for workouts anyway.
