[Japanese Finance Minister Says Supplementary Budget Likely Around $19 Billion] According to a report by Jinse Finance, on May 22, Japanese Finance Minister Katsuyuki Katayama stated that the scale of Japan's supplementary budget is likely to be around $19 billion, while downplaying the potential impact of this additional expenditure on government finances. "The figures are not far off," Katayama said on Friday when asked by reporters about local media reports suggesting the supplementary budget would be approximately 3 trillion yen ($18.9 billion). She mentioned that Prime Minister Sanae Takamichi will announce more details on Monday. Katayama noted that part of the bond issuance plan in last year's annual budget account was canceled, which will reduce the need to issue new government bonds for the supplementary budget. Japan is currently reviewing the revenue and expenditure situation from the previous fiscal year in preparation for the final accounts in June. The market remains cautious about large-scale fiscal spending. Against the backdrop of inflation concerns triggered by the war driving global yields higher, this has also intensified the sell-off of Japanese government bonds. "I have been tasked with managing risks," Katayama said. "These measures, of course, include communication with the market." (Sina Finance)
