[Report Shows China Became Germany's Largest Source of Foreign Investment Projects Last Year]
According to a report by Jinse Finance on May 21, the German Federal Trade and Investment Agency released a report on the 21st indicating that Chinese companies undertook 228 investment projects in Germany last year, an increase of 14.6% compared to the previous year. For the first time since 2017, China surpassed the United States to become Germany's largest source of foreign investment projects.
The report, titled '2025 Foreign Enterprises Investment in Germany Report,' states that a total of 1,564 foreign investment projects were established in Germany in 2025, a decrease of 9.3% compared to the previous year. Among them, U.S. companies accounted for 206 investment projects, a decline of 10%.
The German Federal Trade and Investment Agency noted that despite challenges in the global investment environment, Germany continues to demonstrate strong resilience as an investment destination. Compared to the European Union's average decline of approximately 18%, Germany's decrease in foreign investment projects was relatively moderate.
The report highlights that Chinese companies' investments in Germany last year were primarily concentrated in sectors such as electronics and automation, transportation and logistics, energy and raw materials, and digitalization. More than one-fifth of the projects involved production and research and development, a proportion higher than the overall average for foreign enterprises investing in Germany.
