"The U.S. Strategic Bitcoin Reserve—after dragging on for over a year—is finally making some progress?
President’s digital asset advisor Patrick Witt mentioned in a YouTube interview this week that the government has cleared a major legal hurdle in establishing the reserve and will soon make an announcement.
Currently, the U.S. holds 328,372 BTC, the most among all nations.
These coins mainly come from law enforcement seizures, including the 2013 Silk Road takedown, the 2022 Bitfinex hack, and years of confiscated criminal assets.
There’s also an ARMA bill that would authorize the Treasury to purchase up to 200,000 BTC annually over the next 5 years, with the assets locked for at least 20 years. But I feel like it won’t pass easily—such large-scale public purchases could push prices way too high in the short term."
