[70-Year-Old in Shanghai Nearly Scammed Out of 100,000 Yuan by Bitcoin 'Investment Mentor']
According to Xinmin Evening News, a 70-year-old resident in Chongming, Shanghai, recently fell for an online 'investment mentor's' scam, which claimed that investing in Bitcoin could yield huge profits. The elderly individual went to the bank twice to withdraw 100,000 yuan in cash for a transfer. Fortunately, the joint intervention mechanism between the police and the bank stepped in to dissuade the individual, helping them avoid financial loss in time.
Police caution: Currently, fraudulent investment schemes targeting the elderly are on the rise. Scammers often use online social platforms as a medium, under the guise of 'Bitcoin investment' or 'retirement financial planning,' employing rhetoric like 'low risk, high returns' to brainwash and lure seniors into transferring money.
Elderly friends are reminded: Virtual currency transactions are illegal, and unsolicited investment opportunities are all traps. Always verify large sums of money and seek assistance from the police when in doubt. Family members should also show more care for elderly relatives, frequently remind them, and maintain open communication to jointly safeguard their retirement savings.
