Golden Finance reported on May 20 that U.S. Vice President Vance stated during a White House press briefing on May 19 (local time) that direct negotiations between the United States and Iran have made "significant progress" in establishing communication channels and advancing diplomatic processes. However, he declined to disclose specific details of the ongoing behind-the-scenes discussions.
Vance noted that the U.S. is currently engaged in extensive "back-and-forth communication" with Iran and described the negotiations as "making good progress."
Vance revealed that he himself, President Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, and envoy Whitcoff had previously engaged in prolonged contact with Iranian representatives. The efforts primarily aimed at two objectives: first, to rebuild the long-disrupted direct communication channels between the two countries; second, to lay the groundwork for subsequent formal negotiations. He stated that the negotiation team was not "very confident" about reaching an agreement quickly at the time but believed they could "take an important step toward an agreement," which appears to have been achieved now.
Vance emphasized that the U.S. will continue to advance the negotiations, stating, "Ultimately, either an agreement will be reached, or it won't." However, the current administration remains hopeful of resolving the issue through diplomatic means. (CCTV News)
