Another day, another DeFi attack…
The Echo Protocol bridge contract on Monad got completely wrecked!
The hacker minted 1,000 unbacked eBTC at zero cost, worth a whopping $76.6M!
They only used 45 eBTC as collateral to borrow 11.3 WBTC (around $870K) on Curvance, quickly bridged it to ETH,
swapped it for 385 ETH, and then ran off to Tornado Cash for laundering.
So far, they've only managed to cash out about $820K, while the remaining 955 eBTC (around $73.2M) is still stuck on the Monad chain.
Both Echo and Curvance have urgently paused their contracts.
It’s 2026, and DeFi bridges + synthetic assets are still this fragile… When will they ever be truly secure?
