Iran implements new regulations in the Strait of Hormuz, requiring ships to declare to the Persian Gulf Strait Authority before passing through Odaily Planet Daily News: According to CNN, a document shows that Iran has established a series of new rules for ships wishing to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, ignoring US warnings and continuing its efforts to institutionalize its control over the waterway. This document titled 'Ship Information Declaration' was released by Iran's newly established Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA), and all transit vessels must fill it out to ensure safe passage. The PGSA document contains over 40 questions that require vessels to declare their name, identification number, previous name, country of origin, and destination. The document also requires the declaration of the nationality information of the registered shipowner, operator, and crew, and the provision of cargo details. The above information must be submitted via email before crossing the strait. A PGSA email stated that "complete and accurate information is crucial for processing vessel passage applications" and "the consequences of any incorrect or incomplete information provided by the applicant will be borne by the applicant themselves". It is currently unclear whether any shipping companies have applied for passage permits from PGSA. Analysts point out that this move may expose shipping companies to the risk of US sanctions.
