[South Korean Court Partially Approves Samsung Electronics Strike Injunction] According to a report by Jinse Finance, on May 18, the Suwon District Court in South Korea today (May 18) approved part of the injunction request filed by Samsung Electronics, ordering the company's labor union to ensure that the upcoming full-scale strike action 'does not affect production output' and 'does not cause damage to the raw materials of this globally significant memory chip manufacturer.' A report by Yonhap News Agency pointed out that this effectively 'slams the brakes' on Samsung Electronics' largest-ever planned strike. In mid-March this year, a vote involving over 66,000 members of the Samsung Electronics labor union showed that 93.1% of union members supported the strike. The full-scale strike is scheduled to take place from May 21 to June 7. According to Yonhap News Agency, as a globally significant memory chip manufacturer, a strike at Samsung Electronics could further exacerbate the tightening global semiconductor supply caused by the ongoing surge in demand from global artificial intelligence data center construction. Its impact could ripple across industries such as automotive, computing, and smartphones. Previously, labor and management at Samsung Electronics held multiple rounds of negotiations over salary issues for 2026, but disagreements on certain topics continued to widen, ultimately leading to a breakdown in negotiations.
