[Trump and Netanyahu Discuss Restarting Military Strikes on Iran, Risk of Joint U.S.-Israel Airstrikes Surges]
Reported by Jinse Finance, on May 18, citing Xinhua News Agency, Israeli media reported on May 17 that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and U.S. President Trump held a phone call that day to discuss the possibility of restarting military actions against Iran.
Israel's Public Broadcasting Corporation quoted a senior Israeli official as saying that the phone call between Netanyahu and Trump lasted about half an hour, primarily focusing on the possibility of resuming military strikes on Iran. The official stated that if the U.S. resumes military actions against Iran, it is expected that the U.S. and Israel will jointly launch airstrikes.
In a phone interview with Axios news website, Trump stated that Iran's "time is running out" and warned that if the Iranian regime does not propose better terms for an agreement, "they will suffer far worse blows than ever before."
U.S. officials said Trump hopes to reach an agreement to end the conflict, but Iran has rejected many of his demands and refused to make meaningful concessions on its nuclear program, bringing military options back to the agenda.
Two U.S. officials revealed that Trump is expected to convene his senior national security team in the Situation Room on Tuesday to discuss military options.
A source familiar with the matter disclosed that last Saturday, Trump met with members of his national security team at a golf club in Virginia to discuss the Iran issue. Attendees included Vice President Vance, White House envoy Witkoff, Secretary of State Rubio, and CIA Director Ratcliffe.
