According to Khaosod English, the Provincial Electricity Authority and police in Thailand's northern Lampang province raided a suspected illegal Bitcoin mining operation. The raid was prompted by abnormally high electricity consumption, which caused nearby building cables to overheat and melt. Law enforcement conducted a surprise inspection of a four-story commercial building. Investigations revealed that the site was allegedly illegally tapping into the main power grid to supply electricity to multiple Bitcoin mining rigs on the fourth floor, resulting in an estimated electricity loss of over $80,000, while its registered monthly electricity bill was only about $11. Authorities have seized the mining equipment and are conducting further investigations into those involved.
