[WHO: Ebola Outbreak in Africa Constitutes a 'Public Health Emergency of International Concern']
Reported by Jinse Finance, on May 17, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that, in consultation with the affected countries and in accordance with the International Health Regulations, the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda constitutes a 'Public Health Emergency of International Concern.' However, the event does not meet the criteria for a 'pandemic emergency' as defined by the International Health Regulations. According to the regulations, the WHO Director-General will convene an emergency committee as soon as possible to provide guidance on temporary recommendations for member states in response to this event. The Ebola virus can cause Ebola hemorrhagic fever, primarily transmitted through contact with the blood, bodily fluids, secretions, or excretions of infected individuals or animals. Clinical symptoms mainly include fever, bleeding, and multi-organ damage, with a fatality rate as high as 50% to 90%. (CCTV News)
