Latest progress in OpenAI and Musk lawsuit: Sam Altman will testify in court today
On May 12th, according to CNBC, Musk's lawsuit against OpenAI is still under trial in the Oakland Federal Court in California. OpenAI Chairman Bret Taylor will continue to testify in court on Tuesday local time, and CEO Sam Altman will subsequently take the stage to respond to the lawsuit. Taylor stated in his testimony that during Altman's brief dismissal in 2023, the company's situation was "critical" and that non-profit entities still held control under the current corporate structure. Investors such as SoftBank and Thrive Capital made the new structure a prerequisite for investment. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella also appeared in court on Monday to defend Microsoft's over $13 billion investment and stated that Musk has never been in contact with them regarding investment compliance issues. In addition, James Comer, Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, has sent a letter to Altman requesting clarification by May 22 regarding potential conflicts of interest, including Brockman's holdings of shares in Altman's funds and OpenAI's proposed investment in Helion, a nuclear fusion company in which Altman has a personal stake. Musk accuses Altman and others in the lawsuit of violating OpenAI's non-profit commitments at the time of its founding and using approximately $38 million donated for unauthorized commercial purposes.
