[DeepL, Google Translate's competitor, announces layoffs of one-quarter of its workforce to restructure AI operations]
According to Bloomberg, translation tool company DeepL plans to lay off approximately 25% of its employees, around 250 people. CEO Jarek Kutylowski stated that this move is in response to the 'significant structural shifts' brought about by artificial intelligence. He mentioned on LinkedIn that the company will adapt to the AI era by reducing management layers and accelerating decision-making. Founded in 2017 and headquartered in Cologne, DeepL is regarded as a competitor to Google Translate. In 2024, it raised $300 million at a valuation of approximately $2 billion and had previously considered a U.S. IPO.
