The U.S. military opened fire on a ship flying the Iranian flag in the Gulf of Oman
At 9:00 AM Eastern Time on May 6, U.S. forces enforced a blockade in the Gulf of Oman, disabling an empty oil tanker flying the Iranian flag that was attempting to sail toward an Iranian port.
U.S. Central Command forces observed the chemical tanker *Hasna* as it passed through international waters en route to an Iranian port in the Gulf of Oman. U.S. forces issued multiple warnings, informing the Iranian-flagged vessel that its actions violated the U.S. blockade measures.
After the crew of the *Hasna* failed to comply with repeated warnings, U.S. forces deployed an F/A-18 Super Hornet from the USS *Abraham Lincoln* aircraft carrier, firing several rounds from its 20mm cannon, disabling the tanker’s rudder. The *Hasna* is no longer heading toward Iran.
The U.S. blockade on vessels attempting to enter or leave Iranian ports remains fully in effect. U.S. forces will continue to act cautiously and professionally to ensure compliance.
