The Google Chrome browser you use every day has secretly stuffed you with a 4GB AI model in the background! Zero notification, zero authorization, automatic download of Gemini Nano. It treats your computer as a computing power node for fraud detection, and if deleted, it will automatically restart. Google Chrome browser has started automatically downloading Gemini Nano artificial intelligence model files with a volume of approximately 4GB to user devices that meet hardware requirements in the background. The download behavior did not provide a pre authorization pop-up or clear storage space warning, and automatically re downloaded after the user manually deleted it, causing disputes between security researchers and users over terminal control and resource consumption. The core file is named "weights. bin" and is stored in the OptGuideOnDeviceModel folder of the user's system directory. According to testing, the background download and deployment process takes about 14 minutes without user interaction. Chrome utilizes the local big language model to drive AI features that are enabled by default, such as "assisted writing", client-side fraud detection, and webpage summarization. If users want to completely block the download of the model, they must enter the developer panel, manually disable the "Optimization Guide Side Model" and "Prompt API", and clean up the local residual directory. Method: To completely disable and delete: 1. Open chrome://flags Search and disable the following two options: Optimization guide on device model (set to Disabled) Prompt API for gem nano (or related prompt API, set to Disabled) 2. Restart Chrome 3. Manually delete folder: Windows:%LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\OptGuideOnDeviceModel Mac:~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/User Data/OptGuideOnDeviceModel It is recommended to disable all AI experiment functions in Chrome settings at the same time.
