EU responds to Trump's car tariff threat again: all preparations are made
On May 5 local time, President of the European Commission von der Leyen responded to the threat of US President Trump's automobile tariffs, saying that the United States could not raise tariffs on its own, and the EU was ready for "all kinds of situations". On May 1st, Trump posted on social media that due to the EU's failure to comply with its bilateral trade agreement with the US, the US will increase import tariffs on EU cars imported to the US. Trump said that the tariffs on EU cars imported to the United States will be raised to 25%. If these cars are produced in the United States, there will be no taxes involved. In response, a spokesperson for the European Commission stated that the EU will "retain all options" and evaluate possible follow-up measures. The spokesperson also stated that the EU is implementing relevant trade agreements in accordance with normal legislative procedures and continuously keeping the US informed of progress during the process.
