Boom, boom. In the ongoing lawsuit drama between Musk and OpenAI, a key figure, Brockman—OpenAI’s president—has been summoned to testify in court. Turns out, back in 2017, when Sam Altman was using Musk’s funding to build OpenAI, he secretly paid around $10 million in equity to another co-founder, Greg Brockman. The goal? To win him over and make him listen to Altman instead of Musk. And these two teamed up to hide this from Musk. When the head of Musk’s family office discovered this, she wrote to Musk on August 18, 2017, to inform him about it. Musk immediately forwarded the email to Brockman with a "???" attached. But Brockman neither clarified the matter with Musk nor replied to the email. Fast forward to today’s court hearing, the lawyer asked Brockman why he didn’t inform Musk, who was both a co-founder and a major funder of OpenAI, about this. Brockman defended himself, saying Musk was too busy and hard to schedule a meeting with, so he didn’t tell him. Basically, OpenAI’s founder Sam Altman was, as early as 2017, on one hand sucking up to Musk to secure funding for OpenAI, while on the other hand using Musk’s money to build his own camp and intentionally keeping Musk out of the loop. What a snake.
