Being a KOL, the easiest thing is sharing opinions; the hardest is making those opinions valuable.
The difference lies in whether there's verifiable cost behind the opinions.
Zero-cost signals—'I said this ages ago,' 'Long-term bullish,' 'Not financial advice but…,' 'Heard there's big money involved'—posting thousands of these won't build credibility because typing is free.
Truly trustworthy signals come with a price tag:
- Long-term public records, with both right and wrong calls out there for everyone to see. You can dig through the history and find them.
- When an opinion turns out wrong, actively reviewing it instead of deleting posts or pretending it was never said.
- Disclosing positions, partnerships, advisory roles, unlock timelines—sharing everything you can, so readers don’t have to guess where your interests lie.
- Research processes that are reproducible: where the data comes from, what the on-chain addresses are, how the conclusions were drawn—others should be able to follow your path step by step.
- Income not solely reliant on project ads and referral commissions, so you have the freedom to not just speak for sponsors.
Every single one of these costs you something—privacy, pride, easy monetization opportunities.
