[OFAC Warning: Risk of Sanctions for Paying 'Hormuz Strait Transit Fees' via Digital Assets and Other Forms]
The U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has issued a warning stating that Iran has recently required passing vessels to pay 'transit fees' to ensure safe passage through the Hormuz Strait. Payment methods include fiat currency, digital assets, offset transactions, physical payments, and donations made in the name of the Iranian Red Crescent, Bonyad Mostazafan, or Iranian embassy accounts. All of these may potentially violate U.S. sanctions against Iran and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
