[Singapore Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau: Corruption Methods Becoming More Concealed, Cryptocurrency Poses Enforcement Challenges]
According to Lianhe Zaobao, the Singapore Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) has highlighted that emerging technologies such as cryptocurrency are presenting greater challenges for enforcement and investigations. Speaking at the annual data release press conference, a CPIB spokesperson noted that in recent years, some bribery activities have begun to involve the use of cryptocurrency. These assets exist in virtual networks, making them more difficult to trace and seize, and those involved often use multiple devices, increasing the difficulty of evidence collection.
Furthermore, new technologies have made cross-border crimes more convenient, often requiring authorities to collaborate with overseas law enforcement agencies to piece together a complete chain of evidence. However, the CPIB emphasized that it has established specialized teams to handle related investigations and evidence collection, equipped with the capability to trace and analyze cryptocurrency, while continuously improving investigative methods to address the evolving patterns of criminal activity.
The bureau also stated that against the backdrop of changing international dynamics, it will continue to monitor the state of anti-corruption cooperation among various countries.
