Speaking of maps, Chinese ones are still the best. I've been road-tripping in the U.S. recently, and Google Maps has been driving me crazy... It barely gives lane guidance, and I keep accidentally ending up on ramps, going in circles. It even tells me to cross double yellow lines to make turns sometimes. Back in China, using Baidu Maps or Amap (Gaode), you just need to listen to the voice prompts, and that's enough. But in the U.S., you really have to keep your eyes everywhere and ears open, nervously driving while constantly checking your location and route on the map. And as for those cool countdown timers for traffic lights? Yeah, forget about it.
Yesterday, I happened to visit Google HQ, and I couldn't help but wonder—how can such a massive, world-class tech giant make such a crappy map app? Honestly, you have to admit that Chinese companies are killing it when it comes to user applications. Doubao's voice interaction feels way more natural than Gemini, and the navigation precision and interaction design of Baidu Maps and Amap completely outclass Google Maps.
