[Law Firm Sullivan & Cromwell Admits Bankruptcy Case Documents Contain AI-Fabricated Citations]
According to Decrypt, the renowned law firm Sullivan & Cromwell has admitted to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court that in a bankruptcy case involving Prince Group, it used generative AI without adhering to internal verification protocols, resulting in "hallucinations" in citations, including fabricated and distorted legal precedents and statutes. The errors appeared in a motion submitted on April 9, and the firm has since withdrawn the original document and submitted a revised version. The opposing law firm, Boies Schiller Flexner, pointed out at least 28 citation errors, including non-existent court quotes and misattributed rulings, and has filed a request to postpone the hearing based on these issues.
