[Trump Plans to Extend Measures Easing U.S. Oil Transport Restrictions] Odaily Planet Daily News – During the Iran war, Trump suspended a controversial maritime law, the Jones Act, to make oil transportation within the United States more convenient—and now he hopes to maintain this status. The 1920 law, known as the Jones Act, increases shipping costs between U.S. ports by requiring goods to be transported on vessels flying the U.S. flag. In response to rising fuel prices caused by the Iran war, Trump issued a 60-day waiver of this law on March 18 to simplify oil transportation. According to data provided by the White House, since then, 40 oil tankers have been able to transport oil between U.S. ports from California to Texas, Florida, and Alaska, increasing the effective fleet size by 70% and helping to reduce costs.
