[Five Iran-Linked Oil Tankers Turn Back En Route to Malaysia to Avoid U.S. Navy]
BlockBeats News, April 18, according to a WSJ report, Lloyd’s List maritime data shows that since the U.S. Navy announced it would intercept ships transporting Iranian oil on international waters, at least five Iran-linked oil tankers traveling from the Gulf of Oman to Malaysia have changed course.
The Suezmax tanker *Kariz*, flying the Iranian flag and carrying 1 million barrels of Iranian crude oil, was originally headed for Malaysia and Singapore but veered off course near Sri Lankan waters on Friday morning. Another sanctioned supertanker, *Andromeda*, carrying nearly 2 million barrels of oil, also changed its course in the Indian Ocean while en route to Southeast Asia.
On Friday, two empty crude oil tankers, *Amak* and *Elisabet*, also turned back in the Gulf of Oman while heading toward the Strait of Hormuz and approaching U.S. Navy vessels. Both ships are under U.S. and EU sanctions.
