Fuel prices are rising globally due to tensions in the Middle East, and Jamaica is already feeling the impact.
The Government has been cushioning the increase through Petrojam, limiting weekly price hikes, but this has cost over $1.3 billion in just a few weeks and cannot continue long-term.
Without this support, gasoline would already be about $26 higher per litre, and diesel up to $75 more.
Going forward, a new tiered pricing system will allow for more flexibility, but Jamaicans should expect continued increases and take steps to conserve fuel where possible.(Andrew Holness)
