The encryption and AI industry raised $250 million in the past year for the US midterm elections
According to BlockBeats, on April 16th, the Financial Times reported that the cryptocurrency and AI industries have raised approximately $250 million over the past year through analysis of campaign finance records to support congressional candidates in the November US midterm elections.
A16z co founders Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz donated a total of $25 million to the Super PAC "Leading The Future" in February this year, which supports AI friendly candidates. The organization raised approximately $75 million from billionaires including the aforementioned two individuals and OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman; If including non-profit organizations that do not need to disclose their donors, the number rises to $140 million. The largest Super PAC in the cryptocurrency industry, Fairshake, has separately raised over $134 million.
In January of this year, Cantor Fitzgerald, a Wall Street firm previously led by current US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnik and currently managed by his son Brandon and in partnership with Tether, donated $10 million to the pro crypto Super PAC Fellowship; Anchor Labs, the parent company of the main encryption platform, has also donated an additional $1 million to the Fellowship PAC.
Musk donated $1.6 million to his America PAC in March this year, significantly reducing his involvement compared to 2024, when he invested over $250 million in various PACs. Anthropic has committed $20 million to the non-profit organization Public First Action, which has already transferred some of the funds to Super PAC to influence the 2026 election. The company has a unique position in the industry, explicitly calling for the establishment of strict federal AI security rules, which has led to disagreements with the majority of participants in the AI industry.
