Claude needs KYC, what may be the underlying meaning behind it? Anthropic has started requiring users to undergo identity verification, with the official statement being "to confirm user identity and compliance purposes". Anthropic emphasizes that "authentication data will not be used for model training and will not be shared with third parties," and explicitly states that KYC identity data is hosted by partner Persona. What does this sentence mean in reverse? They are saying: I don't want your data, I only take your identity. In other words, what they want is not your data, but you as a person. Why do we need people? From a personal perspective, it is because AI's capabilities are breaking through boundaries. Previously, Claude Mythos was able to proactively detect and exploit system vulnerabilities, which has alarmed financial regulatory agencies in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada. Goldman Sachs uses Claude to handle transaction accounting and KYC processes, while HSBC equips 31000 engineers with AI coding assistants - AI is no longer just a chat toy, it is becoming a part of financial infrastructure. Does infrastructure require real name registration? If AI can autonomously perform end-to-end payments (as Santander just did), handle transaction accounting and customer access, then its users must be tracked and held accountable. So Anthropic's KYC is essentially preparing for the attribution of responsibility after capability upgrades. From the perspective of Authropic, further real name registration is indeed necessary to prepare for potential risks in the future. What I'm worried about is whether this will become an industry standard? It seems that registering a Claude account with a virtual card is no longer feasible
