**[Covenant AI Announces Exit from Bittensor, TAO Drops 15%]**
According to a report by Jinse Finance, on April 10, Covenant AI, a major subnet developer on Bittensor, announced on Thursday that it will exit the AI-focused network ecosystem. Covenant AI founder Sam Dare stated in a declaration on the X platform that the network's governance mechanism contradicts its claimed commitment to decentralization, making it impossible for the company to continue development on Bittensor.
"The entire premise of Bittensor—the promise to attract developers, miners, validators, and investors to join the ecosystem—is that no single entity can control it," Dare wrote. "That promise is a lie."
The Covenant founder emphasized that the team has always upheld the belief that "AI model training should not be controlled by a single entity" and has fulfilled this mission by creating Covenant-72B, the largest decentralized large language model (LLM) pre-training case in history. These efforts have made Covenant one of the most prominent subnets on Bittensor.
Despite its success, Covenant has decided to leave the network, citing Bittensor co-founder Jacob Steeves as a key reason for the departure.
In the statement, Dare claimed that Steeves (also known as Const) has been exercising authority over the subnet and attempting to regain control of Covenant after it grew to an unmanageable scale.
The Block has reached out to Bittensor's co-founder for further comment.
