White House officials reveal: Trump is considering withdrawing some US troops from Europe
On Thursday, April 10th, a senior White House official revealed to Reuters that due to Trump's dissatisfaction with NATO allies' failure to assist in ensuring the security of the Strait of Hormuz and anger over the lack of progress in his plan to acquire Greenland, he has discussed with advisers the option of withdrawing some US troops from Europe. The official stated that no decision has been made yet, and the White House has not instructed the Pentagon to develop a specific plan for withdrawing troops from the continent. But these discussions indicate that the relationship between Washington and its European NATO allies has deteriorated sharply in recent months. Meanwhile, this also indicates that NATO Secretary General Rutte's visit to the White House on Wednesday did not significantly improve transatlantic relations. Currently, the United States has deployed over 80000 soldiers in Europe and has played a central role in the security architecture of Europe since World War II. More than 30000 soldiers are stationed in Germany, and a considerable number of soldiers are distributed in Italy, Britain, Spain, and other places. However, the official did not disclose which countries may be affected, nor did he specify how many troops may ultimately be withdrawn if Trump decides to proceed with this plan.
