BlockBeats News, April 9, according to CNBC, Maine is set to become the first state in the U.S. to ban the construction of data centers statewide. This move could pave the way for other states to take similar measures and hit the "brakes" on this rapidly growing industry. This week, Maine lawmakers approved the text of a bill that will prohibit the construction of data centers in the state until November 2027. The measure is expected to receive final approval in the coming days, while also establishing a committee to propose a regulatory framework for data centers to ensure they do not lead to increased energy prices or cause other issues for Maine residents. Although the bill has bipartisan support, it has faced strong opposition from tech groups and businesses, who worry that even a temporary construction delay could leave the state behind. Glenn Adams, Director of Business Development at Sargent Corporation, stated that any place that pauses data center construction, even temporarily, will fall behind. The company, headquartered in Maine, is currently building data centers in Virginia and North Carolina.
