[US Media: No Substantial Progress in Indirect US-Iran Negotiations]
BlockBeats News, April 5, according to a report by AXIOS, over the past ten days, the United States and Iran have engaged in indirect negotiations through Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey in an attempt to reach a ceasefire agreement contingent on the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. However, no substantial progress has been made in the negotiations so far.
The indirect negotiations were led by U.S. Vice President Vance and Iranian Parliament Speaker Ghalibaf, with Pakistan's military chief, General Asim Munir, mediating. White House envoy Whitkoff, along with the foreign ministers of Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt, also participated in the indirect talks. Two sources familiar with the negotiations revealed that mediators are still working to facilitate a direct meeting between the U.S. and Iran, but progress has been minimal to date.
One of the sources stated that Iran has so far rejected any proposals for a temporary ceasefire, instead demanding a permanent end to the conflict and clear assurances from the U.S. that it will not launch further attacks. Mediators are currently exploring potential confidence-building measures as a pathway to direct U.S.-Iran negotiations, but it remains unclear whether any progress can be achieved before Monday's deadline.
