[US-Iran Ceasefire Mediation Stalemate: Iran Unwilling to Meet, Qatar Refuses to Act as Mediator]
Reported by Jinse Finance, on April 4, according to The Wall Street Journal, officials and mediators familiar with the situation stated that Qatar has refused to act as the key mediator for a potential US-Iran ceasefire agreement, complicating efforts to find a path forward for negotiations. Sources revealed that last week, Qatar informed US officials that it has no intention of playing a critical role or taking the lead in mediation efforts.
Mediators stated on Friday local time that the latest round of efforts led by regional countries, spearheaded by Pakistan, to facilitate a US-Iran ceasefire has reached a stalemate. Mediators noted that Iran has formally informed them that it is unwilling to meet with US officials in Islamabad in the coming days and that the US's demands are unacceptable.
Mediators also mentioned that Turkey and Egypt are still working to find solutions and are considering new meeting locations, including Doha, Qatar's capital, or Istanbul, while also exploring new proposals to break the deadlock.
Additionally, according to Iranian media outlet Fars News, sources reported that Iran has rejected the US's proposal for a 48-hour ceasefire.
