The Governor of Alabama signed the Decentralized Non Registered Non Profit Association Act, becoming the second state after Wyoming to grant DAO legal status. This bill provides legal status and limited liability protection for DAOs, enabling them to have legal entity status, possess property, sue and be sued, sign contracts, and exempt members and managers from personal liability. The eligibility requirement for application is to have at least 100 members and to form a joint non-profit organization. A similar bill in West Virginia has been passed by the House of Representatives and is awaiting signature by the governor.
