Owen bro's worries have come true. The Russian Security Council stated that the closure of the Hormuz Strait has already caused about half of the global fertilizer exports to come to a halt, with nitrogen fertilizer prices surging by 30%. Deputy Secretary-General Alexander Venediktov mentioned that this disruption could jeopardize planting activities in Asia, while oil supplies to Europe and Asia have dropped 40% below planned levels. This strait handles roughly one-third of the global seaborne fertilizer trade. With no quick alternatives in the short term, Russia, as the world's largest fertilizer exporter, said it cannot fill this gap. The UN trade agency warned last month that countries like Sudan, which rely on this waterway for over half of their supply, are facing the most severe shortages.
