Washington State has officially filed a lawsuit against Kalshi, claiming that the platform is disguising online betting, which should be regulated under state gambling laws, as event prediction. Essentially, it’s still 'gambling dressed in financial clothing.' Citing Washington’s *Gambling Act* and *Consumer Protection Act*, the state is asking the court to halt related operations and hold Kalshi accountable for damages caused to local consumers. Nevada is taking an even more aggressive stance. The court has already issued a temporary restraining order, temporarily banning Kalshi from offering predictions on sports, elections, and entertainment outcomes to Nevada residents. Kalshi is no longer just facing public controversy—it’s under real regulatory scrutiny. Washington State’s lawsuit directly labels it as a variant of illegal gambling, and Nevada’s court has already issued a temporary restraining order. This shows that prediction markets are quickly moving out of the gray area and into the realm of state and federal regulation. The next big question is whether the U.S. will classify event prediction as part of the financial market or as gambling. As of now, Singapore can no longer directly access Kalshi. It used to work fine, but now, just like Polymarket, it’s inaccessible. Bitget VIP—lower fees, bigger perks!
