[U.S. Federal Judge Rules Pentagon's Media Interview Restrictions Unconstitutional] Reported by Jinse Finance, March 21: According to AXIOS, a U.S. federal judge ruled on Friday that the Pentagon's restrictions on journalist interviews violated the First Amendment, granting victory to *The New York Times*, which filed a lawsuit against the Department of Defense over the matter last December. The judge approved *The New York Times'* request for an injunction, prohibiting the Pentagon from implementing a policy that significantly reduced the participation of mainstream newspaper, news agency, and television reporters in press briefings. The policy required journalists to sign a pledge agreeing to abide by certain rules in order to maintain their interview qualifications. The vast majority of mainstream news organizations, including conservative outlets like Fox News and Newsmax, refused to sign the pledge. Judge Paul Friedman stated in his ruling that the Pentagon's media policy was unreasonable. He also noted that the Pentagon's claim that its new media policy imposed no restrictions on journalists was incorrect, and that the policy violated the Fifth Amendment as well. (Jin10)
