[Paraguay Anti-Drug Bureau Seminar Focuses on the Link Between Cryptocurrency and Crime]
On March 19, Paraguay's National Anti-Drug Secretariat, in collaboration with the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative and the Higher Institute of the Public Prosecutor's Office, held a seminar in Asunción themed 'Dismantling Criminal and Terrorist Financial Networks.' The conference analyzed the trend of transnational criminal networks in the tri-border area shifting towards digitalization and discussed cases related to Hezbollah financing networks. General Mirko Sokol, Commander of the Bolivian Police, revealed that after the arrest of Uruguayan drug lord Sebastián Marset, his transactions were primarily conducted through cryptocurrency. Previously, Paraguay's Tax Authority had required cryptocurrency trading platforms to provide detailed reports on every transaction.
